Q: I just can't seem to get rid of a phobia. What should I do? A: I'm convinced that phobias are caused by tormenting spirits. They're not in a person, but they will harass a person. The following Scripture indicates what some evil spirits do to people.

I'm convinced that phobias are caused by tormenting spirits. They're not in a person, but they will harass a person. The following Scripture indicates what some evil spirits do to people.
And he (Jesus) came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
(Luke 6:17-18)
The word vexed is translated from the Greek word "ochleo." Bullinger's Greek Dictionary defines "ochleo" as "to harass, referring to the agitations of mind or emotions."

Vines Greek Dictionary says, "ochleo, means to disturb or trouble." According to this verse of Scripture, evil spirits have the ability to torment a person's mind and emotions, causing phobias, and many other kinds of mental disturbances. Jesus and the disciples delivered people who were harassed by evil spirits.

I believe we can do the same thing today. It's important to note that the devil doesn't have authority over the Christians, but the Christians have authority over him. Notice this powerful truth from Scripture. "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).

I've seen many people freed from many types of phobias as we took authority over the demon that was harassing them. There is no reason for a person to have any type of phobia. Jesus has set us free from the torment of the devil and his evil helpers.
