"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat" (Gen. 1:29).

We are going to look today at how we should give God our best.

In verse 29, the Hebrew word translated "herb-bearing seed" means seeding seed. Seeding seed is a little different than regular seed. For example, when a farmer goes out and plants twenty acres of corn or wheat or whatever he plants, his intentions are to use some of the yielded crop to eat and other parts to sell. But there is always a percentage of the crop that he neither eats nor sells. That's called the seeding seed.

The seeding seed is the very best of the crop. The finest corn or the finest wheat is the seeding seed, because when a farmer takes that best seed and replants it into the ground, it will cause his next harvest to have an even higher yield.

On the other hand, if a farmer sows inferior seed into the ground, he downgrades his yield. You see, farmers don't replant the worst part of their crop. They replant their best crop, which improves the condition of the ground and causes them to have a bigger crop the next season. Unwise farmers are those who eat their seeding seed.

The same principle is true with many Christians in the spiritual realm. They eat their seeding seed. Do you know what the tithe is? The tithe is the ten percent, ten percent of your income, and the Scripture says it's to be the first tenth. Proverbs 3:9 says, "Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase."

First means first, before anything else. It means number one. Why? Because that's your seeding seed. You aren't supposed to eat your seeding seed! You're supposed to replant it! You are to replant your best seed, because it will give you a greater yield than any other seed will. It's true in the natural, and it's true in the spiritual!

Since your best seed is what produces the best crop, then plant your best seed so that you can receive a greater yield spiritually.
