So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.
Punishment came on all men because of the effect of one act of wrongdoing by Adam. But thanks be to God, that in a similar manner, the effect of one act of righteousness by Jesus Christ brought virtue, honesty and uprightness of living to all men. Jesus has nullified the consequences of Adam’s transgression for us.
The Message Bible says: Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person did it wrong and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, another person did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life!
Everyone is pronounced guilty in Adam. Yet everyone receiving the redemption of Jesus are pardoned, forgiven, and made righteous by God’s life-giving approval. Jesus sets people free and gives them life. We are justified: made just as if we had never sinned in Christ.
Jesus justifies me. I was guilty of sin yet made just as if I had never sinned by the righteousness of Jesus.
