Milk, Good For You

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby.”

(1 Peter 2:2)

What do you feed babies to keep them healthy so they will grow up to adulthood? The best nutrients are found in milk. Likewise, what do you feed baby Christian so they will grow up and be spiritually healthy? It’s the milk of the Word of God, of course.

The Message Bible says: “Now, like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s pure kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God.”

We are to desire God’s pure word just as newborn babies desire milk. As we do, we will grow in the knowledge of all the benefits and blessings included in our salvation. This implies we need a systematic plan to feed on the Word of God. This devotion is part of it, but we eat more than a snack during our 24-hour day, seven-day week.

Learn to take every advantage that comes your way. Bible studies and small group meetings are excellent places to hear the Word and to digest it as well. Jesus said that people who would continue in His word would be true disciples.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

As a Christian, I desire the sincere milk of the Word of God so I may grow thereby.
