“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Jesus said that we have power over our enemy, the devil, and nothing he does can hurt us. That is a great promise, but it has a condition with it. We must tread on these serpents and the scorpions, both of which are symbols of demonic power in scriptures, or the divine command of protection can’t be claimed.
The Message Bible says: “See what I’ve given you? Safe passage as you walk on snakes and scorpions, and protection from every assault of the Enemy. No one can put a hand on you.”
The word “power” means to have authority. A policeman has the authority to hold up his hand and stop traffic, but he doesn’t possess the physical power to do so. Too many of us are way too passive when it comes to taking authority over the works of the evil one. Tread on them, for they are under your feet in Jesus’ name.
Jesus gives me authority to tread on the devil’s works. I won’t be hurt.
