When a person uses the expression “Train of Thought,” they generally mean that their thoughts have progressed down a particular track, a particular line of thought.
Thoughts can be either good or evil. Let us see what the Bible tells us about their origin.
Mark chapter 7 verses 20-23 tell us:
And he said, “That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”
Evil thoughts come from within ourselves and will eventually defile us.
Everything evil has its origin with our adversary, the devil, and the Bible cautions us about our thoughts in 2 Corinthians 10:5: “Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
We are to bring into captivity any thought that does not line up with Jesus.
Matthew 6:31-34 says:
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Take no thought, saying. Take no thought, in a negative direction.
Let us look at the word “saying” in verse 31. It means to muse over, affirm, consider as true, and comes from the Greek word ‘Lego,’ a word you will see in a toy shop.
Lego is a child’s building block.
I now look at verse 31 like this: “Don’t build on a negative thought.”
Now consider the kind of thought patterns involved here: Take no train of thought in a negative direction. Don’t go down a line of negative thoughts. Don’t go down a line of lustful thoughts.
Another Day At The Train Station
How do we avoid getting ourselves on these negative lines? Think about the man who is standing on the station platform as the train arrives, but then it leaves without him.
The stationmaster asks him why he didn’t get on the train. He replies, “I didn’t want to go there.”
The trouble is, we get onto trains of thought all the time without knowing where the final destination is. Just like real trains in Europe, these train timetables give us an idea of the kind of track they ride on.
However, as we see from the initial station examples below, even though your wondering train of thoughts doesn’t give any clues as to its final destination, you can be assured that it’ll soon be carrying you in a direction you don’t want to go.
For example:
• The train on platform one is the 1025:
Destination: Titheless, Low Offering, Credit Card Debt and Poverty
• The train on platform two is the 1210
Destination: The Lust of The Flesh, Lust of the Eyes, Pride of Life and Backsliding
• The train on platform three is the 1504:
Destination: Looking at Pretty Woman, Playboy Magazine and all stations to Adultery
• The train on platform four is the 1856:
This is a non-stop train to Divorce which goes straight through the following stations: Love, Appreciation, Communication and Tenderness
• The train on platform five is the 2010:
Destination: They Hurt Me, Unforgiveness, Bitterness and Hatred
• The train on platform six is the 2214:
Destination: I Can Do It; I Don’t Need Help, Pride and Destruction
• The train on platform seven is the 2358:
Destination: Crossed Wires, They Don’t Love Me, Nobody Cares, I’m Not Worthy and Rejection
My Favourite Train
My favourite train of thought is this one:
The train on platform ten is the 2359:
Destination: Philippians 4:8, True, Honest, Just, Pure, Lovely, Good Report and Peace.
Here are some more insights into trains of thought:
- They are sometimes delayed, but never cancelled.
- There are no return tickets.
- You have to get off them and take a different train.
- Whenever you get off, there will be several more trains waiting for you.
- Which one are you going to get on?
Remember what the Bible says on this matter in Philippians 4:8. It says to “think on these good and positive things.”
So get on this train of thought and stay on it.

In 1982 Stephen Wood was a heathen, in a rocky marriage to Janet who was agoraphobic at the time. Janet had given her heart to Jesus as a child but was never taught to read the Word to promote growth. Janet did know enough to cry out to God for their marriage.
It was then that God sent Christians to move in just three houses away. Their Christian neighbours had been praying for them for eighteen months before inviting them to attend the first Kenneth Copeland video meeting to be held in England.
Stephen reluctantly attended the meeting and was struck by the love shown to him by the hosts of the meeting. After watching the video, Stephen knew that he had become a Christian. No-one laid hands on him, no-one prayed with him, he just knew he had received Jesus.
Janet received prayer for the agoraphobia and was delivered from fear that evening. They went home that night a different couple with new hope. The following day, Stephen could sing in tongues without knowing there was a Holy Spirit.
Within six months, Stephen, a warrant officer in the British Army was posted to Germany. Shortly after they became Kenneth Copeland video ministers and continued to grow as people's lives were changed and they faced daily challenges that made them run to God.
In 1985 they returned stronger in faith to Warminster, where God had called them to start a church in the town. Foundation Christian Fellowship was established in September of 1986 with seven people. Their growing church is now reaching out for their own land and building.
The restoration of their rocky marriage was not fully able to begin until Stephen received some emotional healing. Further work was achieved when he received a teaching, which allowed him to finally receive God as the Father who loves him unconditionally.
This divine intimacy has restored their marriage. Now they can minister to other marriages
