(2 Chron. 20:15)
It is not entirely bad for a believer to face trouble—that is, if his trust is in God. “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble…” (Nahum 1:7). When your trust is in God, it does not matter how much trouble rears its ugly head. God will deliver you.
The people of Judah were in trouble. The armies of Moab, Ammon, and Mount Seir had come against the land to destroy its inhabitants. It was a bleak time, but the people of God began to seek God through fasting and prayer. As the Spirit came upon Jahaziel, a Levite and a descendant of Asaph, he spoke these words: “…The battle is not yours, but God’s.”
The words the Holy Spirit spoke hundreds of years ago are just as true today. The battle is the Lord’s. He has already fought and won the victory for every believer. Begin to rejoice, for you have heard from God.
As the children of Judah began to praise God, the Lord caused their enemies to fight one another. They stood and watched their enemies destroy themselves.
God’s formula for success is still the same. Don’t be afraid or dismayed when trouble appears. It is not your battle. God has committed Himself to fight on your behalf. He will contend with those who contend with you. (Isa. 49:25.)
