“All the children of Israel had light in their dwellings” (Ex. 10:23 NKJ).

What a study in contrasts! Egyptian homes shrouded with darkness like a blanket – darkness so thick you could almost cut it with a knife. By contrast, all the children of Israel flooded their dwellings with light.

Using the symbolism we find in Scripture, Egypt is a type of the world system. Israel is a type of the Church. This verse is thus telling us that believers walking in the light of truth will carry that light right into their homes. Likewise, those following the prince of darkness will live in homes, which are an extension of that darkness.

This promise assures you and me of light in our dwellings, regardless of world conditions. The ending of the Church Age is likened to a setting sun. Jesus said that He was working while it was yet day because the night was coming when no man could work (John 9:4).

It is evening time for the Church. In Zechariah 14:7, the Lord promises that His followers will have light even in the evening of life. We who believe will be bathed in light even when the sun is setting upon the world.

According to Esther 8:16, light in the dwelling is accompanied by gladness, joy and honor. Not only is the home of the believer assured illumination, but also a general profusion of God’s blessings.

It is possible, probable, and preferable that our homes be so filled with the presence of the Lord that all non-Christians visiting there will be touched and impressed with that light. It can happen!
