“Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors” (Prov. 8:34 NKJ).
Life is a learning process. Every day that goes by can add enrichment to it. One of the requisites for the adding of spiritual knowledge is a teachable spirit. This verse encourages that kind of attitude.
Here wisdom is speaking to us. It is to our best advantage to be alert to hear what she has to say and to be receptive to her message. We can find happiness by listening to wisdom’s pronouncements. We can also be blessed by being constantly on the lookout, watching daily for her. This verse suggests an attentiveness that comes from total concentration on wisdom and her words.
In His multi-faceted wisdom (Eph. 3:10), God has so many things to reveal, unveil and unfold to those who wait upon Him faithfully and attentively. It is as we seek Him, serve Him, and wait upon Him in daily prayer and meditation that He discloses to us ever new facets and perspectives of His limitless wisdom and knowledge.
Eternity will be a marvel to us. In the other world to which we are bound, you and I will be witnesses to a continuous display of God’s attributes, purposes and nature. Instead of waiting till we all get to heaven to behold the majestic greatness of our God, we are invited to begin now.
A quest for knowledge is all we need to get started. A teachable spirit will keep us going. A daily discipline of Bible reading and prayer communication sets us right at the portals of wisdom. All this takes time, but the advantages of receiving God’s wisdom makes it all well worth the sacrifice.
