The Proof is in the Word

by Larry Ollison | The Cutting Edge

Let me give you some scriptures that are going to knock your socks off – if you happen to be wearing socks. In Genesis 2:17 it says, “…In the day that you shall eat of it you shall surely die.” This scripture foretells that spiritual death will come upon man.

In John 3:4-6, Jesus told Nicodemus he had to be born again in order to have everlasting life. Look at Romans 8:2, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” So Jesus has redeemed us and made us free from death. We are redeemed from the curse of spiritual death.

John 5:24 shows us how we passed from death to life. Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” We shall not come into judgment! We passed from death to life! Here we are right at 2000 years after Jesus hung on the cross, shed His precious blood and all we have to do is accept what He paid for.

Jesus was God, but He came to earth as man. He was the Son of Man. When He came out of the grave He had defeated sin, death and the devil. He became the firstfruits of the kingdom (1 Cor. 15:20). He became the first born-again person in the kingdom of God. That’s why He could take His rightful position as head of the church. We are each a part of His body.

We have this position in the body of Christ because we were brought back into spiritual fellowship by the blood. Ephesians 2:13 says, “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

Colossians 1:19-20, “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”

Look at what it says in Hebrews: “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham” (Heb. 2:14-16).
