“But at evening time it shall…be light” (Zech. 14:7 NKJ).
This verse speaks of a phenomenon of light at evening. It refers to a future time when Jesus will bodily return to earth and His feet will touch down upon the Mount of Olives. According to verse 4…the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley.
In the midst of all of the descriptions of things which will then come to pass, we find these words of comfort, “And at evening time, it will be light.” What would ordinarily be a time of the setting of the sun will, instead, become a scene of great illumination.
In the Bible, the Gospel era is likened to a day. Sunrise is a type or symbol of the Upper Room when new light shone down upon the disciples and the birth of the infant Church ushered in the dawn of a bright new day.
Noontime is like the Middles Ages. It is the heat of the day, a time of scorching sun, a moment of slowed activity and lessened productivity. Three p.m. is like the Reformation period. The 4 p.m. time is like the evening breeze or the revival times of the last days. Genesis 3:7 calls this period the cool of the day.
Evening time, sunset, or suppertime is like the ending of the Church Age. This scriptural promise of phenomenal brightness at day’s end assures us that we can be bathed in light all the way up to the Lord’s coming. The sun will set on civilization, but we who look for His coming will be lit up with the glory of the Lord.
Cheer up…your light has come! (Isa. 60:1).
