Wasting Time

by Ron Luce | Uncategorized

Time is something we all think we have plenty of. During the school year students think, “Will it ever be summer?” But, we need to be good stewards of our time. We need to use our time wisely.

We need to spend time alone with God. I’m not talking about five minutes every morning. I’m not even talking about that one hour every morning. I’m talking about a communion between you and God. You don’t have to be like a monk and live up in the hills. You can be alone with God and still have your normal lifestyle by just getting rid of some things. We have so much busyness in our lives.

Turn off the television in the evenings. Turn off the radio on your car. Spend time by yourself in your room with no distractions. When it’s quiet and you have nothing to distract your mind, you can hear that still small voice of the Holy Spirit. When God knows He has your undivided attention, He will impart wisdom and understanding to you. You will begin to grow and mature.

We have been conditioned that we must always be doing something. If we’re not in school, we must be at ball practice. If we’re not at practice, we must be at work. And if we’re not at work, we must be at home getting ourselves ready to start all over again the next day.

Have you ever had your electricity go out during a storm? It can get awfully quiet. No radio, no television, no telephone – you don’t even hear the hum of the refrigerator. During those times we think, “What are we going to do?” There’s nothing to input into our brain. It’s just very still and quiet. What do you do? Do you make it a family time where you just sit and talk? Do you take advantage of the quiet?

Don’t wait UNTIL the electricity to go out and you’re forced to be quiet before God. Commit to having that rich communion time with Him everyday.
