You Have a Covenant With God

by Vikki Burke | Enriching Life Daily

As believers, we have the same resurrection power dwelling on the inside of us that raised Jesus Christ from the dead more than 2,000 years ago. We must discover that resurrection life means we have a covenant with God.

We’re not living under an old system that requires blood sacrifices or legalistic relationships. We have been given a covenant with God that personally involves us with Him. Hebrews 8:6 explains this:

But Christ, as a Minister in heaven, has been rewarded with a far more important work than those who serve under the old laws because the new agreement that he passes on to us from God contains far more wonderful promises (TLB).

After we step into the covenant of God the Father, the entire Kingdom of God is open to us. Because of the covenant God has made with us, we have already been freed from anything the devil would try to use to keep us bound. Jesus became a Man for that very reason: to represent us in the presence of God and to pay the price for our sin so we wouldn’t have to.

First John 4:17 says, “As He [Jesus] is, so are we in this world.” Our standing with God becomes identical with Jesus’ standing the moment we step into this covenant. We can know that God loves us, is committed to our success, and has given us access to all of His resources. His desire is that we would experience the same results that Jesus would experience if He were walking on the earth today and faced the same situation we are currently dealing with.

Envision what the outcome would be if Jesus faced the obstacles we are dealing with right now. If we can imagine how the situation might turn out for Jesus, then we can imagine how God wants it to turn out for us. We have the identical covenant that Jesus has with the Father. That’s what resurrection living looks like!

Jeremiah 31:33 says, “‘But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (NKJV). When anyone comes to know Jesus, God writes on the inside of that person all the possibilities of what he or she can become in Christ.

I remember what it was like when I was born again. Suddenly I believed that God wanted to perform all kinds of miracles on my behalf. I prayed for my sick dog because I believed God would heal even my dog. I prayed for parking spaces; in fact, I still do! I prayed for needs in every area of my life because I had discovered that God is interested in what concerns me. If a situation involved me, I knew that God wanted to be right in the middle of it!

God wants to be in the middle of all our situations. He has given us access to a covenant with Him so we can stand as an overcome in the midst of adverse circumstances. His law is written on the inside of us. That includes the laws of faith and love and all the other laws of His Kingdom that enable us to live outside the limitations of our natural strength and reasoning power.
